The Student Leadership, Engagement and Development Awards program recognizes NC State students and organizations for their contributions to service and co-curricular excellence. The 2016 awards program will be held Monday, April 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the Mountains-Piedmont Ballroom at Talley. Awards are presented in three categories:

  • Service – Deborah S Moore Service Awards
  • Leadership – Wolfpack Leadership Challenge Awards
  • Engagement – Student Organization Outstanding Achievement Awards

Applications and nominations will be accepted through March 28, 2016. Click appropriate award(s) below to apply and/or nominate students and organizations.

Deborah S. Moore Service Awards

The Deborah S. Moore Service Awards recognize exemplary service by NC State students and organizations.  Deborah S. Moore, a graduate of NC State, served as the first Volunteer Coordinator of the NC State Student Center. Four (4) awards are presented in this category:

 

Outstanding Student Volunteer 

This award will recognize a student who has been involved in service to the community throughout their college career. This award can only be won once while enrolled at NC State.

Outstanding Student Organization 

This award will recognize a NC State student organization that has made a difference to NC State or the local community through service and volunteerism during the 2015-2016 academic year. Nominees must be registered student organizations at NC State.

Outstanding Service Program

This award will recognize a one-time event or ongoing project that has had a great impact on the community or an agency during the 2015-2016 academic year.

Outstanding Philanthropy Program

This award recognizes a student led fundraising event in which the proceeds were donated to a non-profit or charity to support their work in the community and was completed in the 2015-2016 academic year.

Wolfpack Leadership Challenge Awards

The Leadership Challenge provides individuals and organizations with a framework for exemplary leadership. These principles are the basis for the Wolfpack Leadership Challenge Awards. Five (5) awards are presented in this category:

The ‘Model the Way’ Award

The ‘Model the Way’ Award recognizes an individual, program, or organization that promotes core values when setting and achieving their goals. This includes, but is not limited to, establishing and surpassing visible standards of excellence, positively reacting to complex change, and paving the way for others to lead. Finalists must complete a video to be shown during awards ceremony. Video production assistance will be provided by the Student Leadership & Engagement RED-i (Resources & Event Design Interactive) team.

The ‘Inspire a Shared Vision’ Award

The ‘Inspire a Shared Vision’ Award recognizes an individual, program, or organization with the passion to make a difference. Their ability to look into the future and plan for it in the present makes them stand out above the rest. Imaginative leadership, persuasive guidance, and provocative animation are qualities that help applicants in this category Inspire a Shared Vision for those around them. Finalists must complete a video to be shown during awards ceremony. Video production assistance will be provided by the Student Leadership & Engagement RED-i (Resources & Event Design Interactive) team.

The ‘Challenge the Process’ Award 

The ‘Challenge the Process’ Award recognizes individuals, programs, or organizations that continuously look for new ways to challenge the status quo. Innovation, experimentation, and risk-taking are hallmarks of the applicants for this award. Finalists must complete a video to be shown during awards ceremony. Video production assistance will be provided by the Student Leadership & Engagement RED-i (Resources & Event Design Interactive) team.

The ‘Enable Others’ to Act’ Award

The ‘Enable others to Act’ Award recognizes individuals, programs, or organizations that bring people together in an atmosphere of respect, trust, and dignity. Through their efforts, applicants for this award should be able to demonstrate how the growth of individuals and a collective have been achieved through spirited collaboration. Finalists must complete a video to be shown during awards ceremony. Video production assistance will be provided by the Student Leadership & Engagement RED-i (Resources & Event Design Interactive) team.

The ‘Encourage the Heart’ Award 

The ‘Encourage the Heart’ Award recognizes individuals, programs, or organizations that take great pride in the work they do, and spend time celebrating and rewarding the efforts those who make great things happen. Leaders encourage the heart by infusing hope and determination into hard work, and recognize their peers with high praise. Finalists must complete a video to be shown during awards ceremony. Video production assistance will be provided by the Student Leadership & Engagement RED-i (Resources & Event Design Interactive) team.

Student Organization Outstanding Achievement Awards

The Student Organization Outstanding Achievement Awards are presented to those student organizations, leaders, and advisors that have demonstrated excellence. Six (6) awards are presented in this category:

Outstanding Student Organization Program

This award recognizes a student organization that has made a significant and meaningful contribution to students, the NC State and/or the surrounding community; demonstrated exceptional leadership from officers and members, and benefits its membership through support, scholarship/education, or activities. Organization programming should reflect an effort to advance the social, moral, cultural, intellectual, and leadership development of individual members and/or the university community.

Student Organization Award of Distinction 

This award recognizes a student organization that has made a significant and meaningful contribution to students, the NC State and/or the surrounding community; demonstrated exceptional leadership from officers and members, and benefits its membership through support, scholarship/education, or activities. Organization programming should reflect an effort to advance the social, moral, cultural, intellectual, and leadership development of individual members and/or the university community.

Student Teamwork/Collaboration

The Teamwork and Collaboration Award will be presented to the organizations that made meaningful contributions to NC State community through their collaborative programming efforts either throughout the year or a single successful program. This is a collaborative award, therefore, all organizations involved in the collaboration must be included in the nomination.

Consideration for the award will be given to organizations and/or programs that:

  1. Demonstrate the collaborative spirit through work with numerous organizations or a one-time collaborative effort between two or more organizations.
  2. Reflects programming that enhances the NC State community and institutional values of collaboration and initiative by utilizing a creative and unique approach.
  3. Explores and fosters innovative and efficient ways of reaching and involving diverse student audiences, while integrating the purpose of all organizations involved.
  4. Strives to coordinate and manage fiscally sound, well-planned programs.
  5. Programs that take place between April 1, 2015 and March 28, 2016

Outstanding Online Presence  

The purpose of this award is to recognize groups with an impressive online presence. We will consider Get Involved customization, webpage originality, use of social media and inclusion of up-to-date pertinent information. Webpages must be created by a student and not professionally maintained.

Outstanding Student Advisor Award

The Outstanding Student Organization Advisor Award recognizes an advisor who has had a positive impact on a student organization and the University community; consistently contributing his or her time and energy to improve the organization, and takes great strides to help the organization’s leaders.

Outstanding New Student Organization 

This award will recognize an organization new to the campus since April 1, 2015. The organization will demonstrate a progression of growth, improvement and achievement throughout the year as indicated by their programming and membership. Along with carrying out the organizational mission, fostering personal and professional excellence in its members, this organization should also have a positive impact on the NC State and surrounding community.
