We are pleased to welcome Dr. Jessica Murphy to the Office of Student Involvement.
Ahead of our Open House January 11th from 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm, we had a short interview with Dr. Murphy.
“Can you share a few things our students and staff might be interested in learning about you?”
Dr. Murphy: “1) I was introduced to higher education as a career field when I visited the University of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2001. The students and friends I met there opened my eyes to the concept of student involvement as a powerful form of civic engagement. 2) I truly believe social organizing is crucial to a strong and healthy democracy. Being involved in the campus community is an immediate opportunity for students to be active citizens. 3) New Orleans is my favorite American city! Diversity is the cultural theme there. The music, food, architecture, art, and activism are themselves beautiful voices in a narrative that capture my imagination of what is possible.”
“What is one question or idea you would love for people to share with you?”
Dr. Murphy: “I would to l hear your favorite idea. I LOVE hearing people’s ideas- the crazier the topic the better.”
“What are you looking forward to while at NC State?”
Dr. Murphy: “I’m very excited to join the Wolfpack as a champion for student involvement as a contributor to student success.”
We are eager to start the Spring 2018 semester with our new Student Involvement Director. Please feel free to stop by and chat with her during our Open House or find her around the suite this semester.
