Start/Renew an Organization

Requirements for Registration

All student organizations must:

  • Have a unique, clear purpose that is not duplicated by another existing student organization
  • Register annually with Student Involvement during the open registration period
  • Maintain a minimum of six (6) active NC State student members at all times
  • Maintain a minimum of four (4) different NC State student officers at all times
  • Have an advisor that is NC State faculty, staff, or graduate student employed by the university
  • Have an up-to-date copy of the student organization’s constitution
  • Participate in all of the required trainings hosted by Student Involvement
  • Abide by all university policies, regulations, and rules, state and federal laws, and Student Involvement expectations

Every student organization is required to register annually with Student Involvement during the open registration period. The registration form must be completed online using Student Involvement’s online student organization management system – Get Involved. This site not only allows students to register their group, but also browse the organization directory, advertise and learn about campus events, and track their out-of-the-classroom involvement.

Access to the Get Involved site does require individuals to authenticate by logging in with their university unity ID and password. Student organizations that register with Student Involvement will be listed on the Get Involved site’s directory and will have access to various resources.

The annual registration period for the 2016 – 2017 academic year is closed. The annual registration period for the 2017 – 2018 academic year will open at 9:00 a.m. on April 3, 2017 and close at 5:00 p.m. on September 29, 2017. All existing student organizations and new student organizations must register during this timeframe to be considered “active” for the 2017 – 2018 academic year.

Start A New Student Organization

Prior to Registration

  • Research. Review Get Involved to ensure another student organization is not already in existence with a similar purpose or mission. Contact similar groups to see if the ideas overlap, as this will be asked during the mandatory review session. Determine how the group will be unique and a benefit to members, the campus and surrounding community.
  • Plan. Create a student organization constitution and establish how the group will maintain longevity on campus.
  • Educate. Review the Student Organization Leader Handbook. Ensure understanding of university policies, rules, and regulations so that the group is in compliance.
  • Form. Establish an executive board that consists of at least four (4) different NC State student officers. Recruit at least six (6) NC State student members, and secure an advisor that is either faculty, staff, or graduate student employed by the university.
  • Consult. Contact Deborah Felder, assistant director, at dpfelder@ncsu.edu or Kristen Kegerize, coordinator, at kmkegeri@ncsu.edu to schedule the mandatory review session for all new student organizations. This brief meeting will help determine the overall vision for the organization and how the group can function on campus.
